Abstract

This workshop is designed as a space for reflection and analysis on the impact of digital technologies on communication in general, and more specifically on community communication. In a context dominated by big data and intelligent systems, it is crucial to develop a critical and decolonial perspective that questions the hegemonic narratives and power structures perpetuated by these technologies within the capitalist-informatic system.

The workshop will examine how digital tools can challenge the modern-colonial hegemony rooted in new technologies while also addressing the risks and abuses of algorithms that often marginalize diverse voices and perspectives. Through participatory dynamics, it will present theoretical and experiential reflections drawn from particular realities linked to communities and nationalities, showcasing examples of community initiatives that have used digital technologies in innovative and responsible ways to promote inclusion and empowerment.

The objective is to problematize the conception and use of new technologies, focusing on community communication, to foster a deeper understanding of the ethical and social implications of these technologies in specific communities. The workshop aims not only to critique the misuse of these tools but also to imagine alternatives that promote more equitable and just communication practices.
