  • The event will take place in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual) from today, September 6, until this Friday, in Puebla, Mexico, and features the participation of scholars from 19 countries.
  • ACPC and Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Puebla, Mexico) are the organizers of ICOMTA’23, in collaboration with the University of Malaga, the University of Vigo, and the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela-Political Research Team (Spain), among others.

ACPC and Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) inaugurated today, Wednesday, September 6, the 3rd International Conference on Communication and Applied Technologies (ICOMTA’23), a gathering of 426 authors from 19 countries in the city of Puebla, until this Friday, September 8, to explore the relationship between communication and applied technologies.

The event was inaugurated in person by Jorge Luis Castillo Durán, Director of the Institute of Government Sciences and Strategic Development, who stated, «Cultural exchange is always pleasant, but it is even more so when accompanied by academic exchange,» especially to complement the education of students and society in general. Later, Daniel Barredo Ibáñez, Emeritus Researcher at the University of Malaga and President of the Honorary Committee of the event, highlighted the 3 key reasons why ICOMTA has become a reference space in Ibero-America: «This is a space to share results, collaborate on the publication of academic books, and of course, enjoy a charming city like Puebla,» said Barredo.

The interrelation between these 3 keys has been consolidating ICOMTA as a reference space in Ibero-America. The first edition of ICOMTA in 2021 was held at the Universidad del Rosario, with the participation of more than 200 researchers; in 2022, ICOMTA was led by the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (Ecuador), with the attendance of over 300 researchers from 18 countries; while in 2023, more than 400 researchers from 19 countries have come together. According to Paulo Carlos López-López, co-creator of ICOMTA, the publication of about 15 books associated with ICOMTA in just 3 years «demonstrates the relevance of research in our field, its appeal to high-impact publishers.»

The event’s inauguration was attended by María del Consuelo Molina García, Director of the Faculty of Computer Science at BUAP, as well as Angélica Mendieta Ramírez, Director of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the same institution, among others. ICOMTA 2023 had an organizing committee composed of Ximena Serrano, President of ACPC; Carla Ríos and Araceli Espinosa, professors at BUAP; José Rúas Araújo and Iván Puentes (University of Vigo, Spain), as well as more than 90 academics in various organizing, logistical, or scientific committees. Over the three days, 164 presentations will be made on topics such as Software, big data, data mining, and intelligent systems; fact-checking experiences in Europe and Latin America in the service of journalism; persuasion and emotion: language analysis, content, and artificial intelligence; or freedom of expression, ethics, and transparency in the digital society, among others.
